GM celebrates its association with Occhio Lighting, Germany; opens flagship Occhio store in Mumbai

The store combines lighting and brand experience over two floors

Switches and home automation brand GM Modular in association with Occhio, the Munich-based lighting and design company, recently opened its new flagship store at Andheri West, Mumbai.

This innovative store is spread across 4,000 sq-ft of multifunctional space, which combines lighting and brand experience over two floors. The Occhio store by GM offers consultation and sales, having got the sole distribution rights for the brand in India.

Occhio is one of the fastest-growing and amongst the most innovative companies in the lighting industry in Germany’s premium design lighting segment. Founded in 1999 by Axel Meise, Occhio is based on an idea that is as simple as it is revolutionary: Drawing on the belief that quality of light means quality of life, the company develops holistic, multifunctional luminaire and spotlight systems for home and commercial settings.

GM, together with Occhio, worked at planning and implementing the new store in the heart of Mumbai. More than 200 guests celebrated the opening and experienced a mix of architecture, lighting design and products. The new Occhio store by GM presents a world-class experience, providing a new culture of lighting with its showroom and information platform for customers, professionals, etc.

“The fundamental idea is to bring an altogether innovative experience with unique and luxurious products,” said Ramesh Jain, chairman of GM. On the other hand, GM’s managing director, Jayanth Jain, stated, “The showroom emphasises a warm and pleasant atmosphere that serves as a backdrop for the clear and coherent product world.”
A living area awaits the customer on the ground floor, where the visitor is welcomed into a bright showroom. ‘Space stations’ are used to present diverse luminaire and spotlight series, and invite visitors to get familiar with the products, interactively. The eye-catching green stone plant wall symbolises Occhio’s philosophy and rounds off the room’s design concept.

On the first floor of the store, there is a large multifunctional area for training courses, lectures and special exhibitions. The visitor experiences Occhio luminaire and spotlight systems using a realistic application, and the effect of light and quality of light as if at home.

‘‘Our endeavour is to develop innovative and unique product families for holistic lighting design,’’ said Axel Meise, founder and designer of Occhio. ‘‘I will be delighted if we are able to communicate the added value of good light to visitors at the new Occhio store in Mumbai.”

GM’s brand ambassador and Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty was also present. He said, “With its striking and excellent design, the multifunctional luminaire system will excite the consumer right from the very beginning.
GM’s director, Kumarpal Banda, said, “This product is going to set extraordinary standards in the contemporary market.”

Interior designer Sussanne Khan, who was a guest of honour at the event, pointed out that, “The company's philosophy is shaped in part by its desire to empower people to become their own lighting designers.”

The company presents its holistic luminaire systems, allowing visitors to discover their innovative functions and possible applications, in addition to offering comprehensive expertise in light planning. Both the entities have a strong vision of bringing a revolution in the premium lighting segment for the Indian market.
