42 MM Architecture’s ode to French design
The talented team of the New Delhi-based firm recently completed a lavish living space which has a deep French connection
In their new project, the client’s multivalent excursions nurtured an urge to own a house that is a statement of luxury without compromising on the feeling of warmth and cosiness. “The classical French style was the perfect pick, as it returns to tradition and comfort, yet does not compromise on style and glamour,” explains the architects.
The public area of the house, the living room, is therefore designed as a picturesque frame that captivates the beholder’s eyes. The living room which is divided into formal and semi-formal areas can be accessed through beautiful French doors. In the formal seating area, quiet instantly, a luxurious indigo-hued velvet upholstered chair screams for attention. Echoing a French design, the frame and legs of these chairs are highlighted with gold-plating. In contrast to these chairs, the other seating arrangements — two sofas and a pouffe in chesterfield design — is draped in a subdued beige colour upholstery. The coffee table with a marble top and gold-plated metal frame, and a console in gold finish are other classic beauties here.
The semi-formal living area also has two sink-in fabric upholstered sofas in beige. Two low seating faux leather chairs next to it emit a casual vibe. A marble-topped coffee table, and side tables with gold accents complement the setting.
Handpicked antique vases in gold and ceramic, sumptuous carpets, a stunning heirloom painting framed in gold-leafing, and glittering crystal chandeliers sourced from one of the oldest in the business, Barovier&Toso from Italy gives both the living room set-ups a touch of understated royalty.
