Bengaluru architects learn the fine art of being legal

A first-of-its-kind conclave on ‘The Art of being Legal’ was organised by Fanzart, a luxury fan brand, in association with Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) at the brand’s Bengaluru store. The discussion brought together 120 architects and designers from leading architectural firms such as The Fulcrum Studio, Gayathri & Namith Architects and NG Associates, among others. It touched upon the importance of a contract as a crystal clear guide to the myriad points of designing. Referencing several case studies, the event emphasised on the legal issues that architects face while getting into a contract with the builder/client and contractors. Essential skills such as avoiding legal issues and resolving disputes amicably were also addressed at the event. Advocate Ajesh Kumar Shankar, chief, AKS Law Associates, said, “Architecture treaties (deal) with form, content, and ideas; also with trusses, lighting, budgets, waterproofing, and expansion joints. To this unlikely diversity, you invariably need to add law into the mix. From copyright concerns to insurance to construction disputes and more, the list is never-ending. We are glad that Fanzart has taken such an initiative to bring more organised functionality into the most unorganised sector.” Fanzart will soon take the conclave to Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, etc.
