Mridusmita Mondal

As with her co-designer Samiksha Choudhary, Mridusmita’s passion for design and creating new things knows no bounds.

For her, curating beautiful spaces is just as important as making them smart, sustainable, buildable, and cost-effective. With a conscious effort to create seamless narratives, Mridusmita’s attention is tuned in to the finer details – from the spaces, she plans to the materials she selects, from the details she executes to the stories she weaves. At the new Legato office designed by her, the duo has conceptualized a workspace that provides for sustainability, inclusivity, employee wellbeing, community building, and impeccable aesthetics.

What differentiates a great design from a good design is the seamless union of form and function.

On Conscious Design

Mridusmita believes that the art of good design speaks of function and aesthetics, but the art of conscious design speaks of sustenance and people. With a firm specializing in workspace design, sustainability becomes even more crucial since the post-pandemic world is in dire need of a wellness-sensitive design. From maximum daylight to biophilia, to lighting design, Mridusmita tries to incorporate as many elements as she can for a design catered to human wellbeing.

Looking Forward

One of Mridusmita’s favorite quotes happens to be from Zaha Hadid – When there are 360 degrees, why stick to one? With workplace design, she has often seen how the slightest of lifestyle changes, inspired by design, snowball into a work culture shift. With many unexplored nuances to embrace, she is all set to blur the lines and explore the unconventional when it comes to designing.
