Hailing from Chennai, Poonam comes with a background in psychology and holds a keen interest in delving deep into the effect of spatial design on human behaviour and feeling. With this strong foundation in human-centric design, she also brings a love for fusion to the table, often incorporating classic details with modern geometry. Her interpretation of luxury graces every project she does, including the ‘Royal Escape’ – a villa in Pune that conveys palatial grandeur through modest
scale. With allusions to classical elements, the spaces exalt indoor-outdoor living while bringing in old-world charm.
Working with solid materials, the right proportions and the perfect level of detailing is luxury to me.
On Conscious Design
For Poonam, a lot of sustainable design comes from simply working in an organised manner. Unnecessary mock ups, wastage of materials or labour, and speed in construction time are some of the often-overlooked methods of working sustainably. “Sustainability in designing luxury spaces is a bit complex,” she says, but they do their bit using strategies such as reusing furniture, valuing the intangible time as a resource and reducing carbon footprints.
Looking Forward
When asked about her dream project, Poonam mentions the refurbishment of an old heritage property – which would allow her to fully immerse herself in crafting new luxury from vintage vibes.
