Studio Sangath
Khushnu Panthaki Hoof and Sönke Hoof
Khushnu Panthaki Hoof and Sönke Hoof are the masterminds behind Studio Sangath, a design powerhouse nestled in Ahmedabad. With a shared love for crafting spaces that resonate, they bring a refreshing approach to architecture. Khushnu and Sönke’s philosophy weaves design harmoniously with environmental consciousness. For them, sustainability is establishing a balance between environmental, economic and social relationships. They strive to create spaces that bring joy to people irrespective of the scale/typology of the built form. What makes their projects unique is their attention to modulation of light, way of living and heightening the significance of liminal spaces. Their work has been recognised and published in various books and magazines nationally and internationally.
Their projects are like tales etched in bricks and concrete. Take, for instance, their Weekend Home in Kensville, Ahmedabad – a fusion of snug hideaway and expansive gathering space. Then there’s the Affordable Housing for tribal school teachers in Amirgadh, a homage to architectural icons through innovative design.
Yet, Khushnu and Sönke are more than architects; they’re storytellers. Their ongoing University Campus project at the foot of Mount Girnar in Junagadh uses limestone sourced right from the site.
In their Weekend Home project, there is a blend of exposed brickwork and pigmented concrete hugging the rolling landscape. The spaces of this home are spread around a courtyard with a large circular oculus.
Khushnu and Sönke’s impact is woven into each thoughtfully designed space and leaves an enduring imprint on the world of design.
