The Tirupati railway station redevelopment project is an upgradation project of the existing railway station at Tirupati, where approximately 30 acres of station complex is integrated with other infrastructure and facilities to provide a seamless experience to the passengers. The development is set to utilize the commercial potential of the location of the station complex and modernize the railway station facilities.
The redevelopment is set to bring a world-class integrated transportation hub, the key design considerations are efficient urban mobility and robust connectivity.
The onus for upgrading major railway stations was given to NBCC in 2017. Under this program, the station building at Tirupati is provided with an iconic structure, congestion-free, non-conflicting entry and exit to the station premises. Besides, differently-abled friendly facilities such as retail shops, washrooms, cloakrooms, food courts, etc. are planned along with ATMs and pharmacies. Besides land to be monetized will have residential buildings, shopping complexes, etc.
The focus on its height is accentuated using an oblong tapered element that draws inspiration from the ‘Gopuram’ of South Indian temple architecture. The subtle pastel tone of the building complements its aesthetic and a balance is achieved by combining glass and concrete in the façade.
The redevelopment plan lays emphasis on world-class infrastructure by providing for an integrated and efficient transportation hub. Efficient urban mobility and robust connectivity are the key development areas for the project.
