This May saw the coming together of design minds from across the world at the brilliantly curated Cadex conference at Domotex Asia held in Shanghai. An innovative platform for architects and designers, which invites renowned designers from China and the world to exchange their know-how and opinions with an audience of over 400 delegates in a full-day event, Cadex was the hub of energy exchange between thought leaders from across the world. With design discourses usually dominated by trendsetters from the West, Cadex Shanghai proved to be a refreshing change to hear about the pathbreaking work in India. Interestingly, Architect and Interiors Editor, Sumisha Gilotra was invited to represent India at the conference and share her thoughts on the Green Blueprint of India.
India’s Green Marvels
With sustainability embedded in the DNA of architecture and design in India, it was an honour to present ground-breaking works undertaken by architects and interior designers from across the country. From platinum-rated green projects to grassroots level sustainable and traditional architecture projects undertaken in Tier II and Tier III cities of India, Sumisha gave a wide perspective to India’s progressive mindset rooted in traditional architecture of the region. She spoke about the parallels between traditional architecture and the pillars of sustainability and then moved on to present about 28 projects by Indian design leaders. She then suggested ways in which designers and brands from across the world can collaborate with Indian firms to take sustainability to another level.
The audience was in awe of some of the projects by architects and designers and their craftsmanship. The sheer variation of design sensibilities of designers across the country was a talking point of the conversations following the presentation.
As Sumisha concluded, the delegates were left in sheer admiration of the initiatives by the architects and designers of India.
Cadex, known for presenting cutting-edge architectural and design trends, empowering industry professionals, and fostering collaboration, was a huge success at Domotex Shanghai. The industry talks delved into the exploration of finding a balance between protecting the Earth and meeting consumer needs, and we are glad India left a mark on this landscape.
