Interior designer and stylist Sanjyt Syngh, known for his quirky sense of creativity, unveils a new collection of art works that establish his unique way of looking at things. ‘Back in the Day’ is a series of artworks that depict a yearning for childhood habits in a humorous and contemporary manner. These happen to be the first artworks of the designer.

“I feel we are all artists in our own different ways. Even the simplest thing like cooking a perfect omelete is art,” muses the Delhi-based Syngh. “I started my journey as a creative person pretty early, but it’s taken me until now to experiment with art. The stroll down this path is very recent, but the concept goes back to childhood. These art pieces are called ‘Back in the Day’. This series is expressed in two forms, one is a 3-D conceptual wall art and the other is a free-standing floor sculpture.”

Wall art:
This piece comprises 3-D sculptures of pencils and some text. The text is a short story that says, “Once Upon a Time they used pencils. THE END,” followed by hash tags like #LMFAO #LOL #ROTFL. “It’s almost like writing with stationery has become a joke,” he says, alluding to the increasing preference for digital practices.

Floor sculpture:
Your artwork doesn’t need to be confined to your walls. Bring it to the floor. This 8-foot-high sculpture is a very literal representation of a pencil holder, but what makes it impressive is the size and the way it is conceived. It also has a personal story: it talks about childhood aesthetics which still exist. “I never mix pencils of different colours in a pencil holder till date. Both my home office and my desk in my office have pencils of the same colour and brand. I follow this in my corporate projects as well. When sourcing desk accessories, I source pencils to suit the décor of the room,” says Synth.
