What inspired Kapil Mehta to be an architect?

From growing up surrounded by architecture publications to finding his footing in the hospitality industry, architect Kapil Mehta has an interesting journey in the profession

With an extensive experience of more than two decades, architect Kapil Mehta has managed to reach the zenith of the design profession in the design fraternity. Born and brought up in a household that has been in the business of publications that also included Architecture and Civil Publications, his house was frequently visited by authors from the industry. Having consistently been under the influence of learned men, it inspired him to pursue the profession of designing spaces. Travelling the world added to the resolve, encouragin him to keep an open mind to study the nuances and nitty-gritties of architecture.

At the inception of his career, he worked with famous names in the Delhi fraternity such as Satpal Bawa, SP Vaid, architect Bhatia and SK Sareen. One of the highs at the onset has been the experience gained through ITDC hospitality projects which added more onto his interior designing prowess, eventually placing him as a stalwart in the industry. One of the most influential people in his life is architect Vijay Garg, who has been with him since juvenescence, inspiring him to keep going through adversities.

In the year 1993 with few mid-sized residential projects in hand, Mehta started his own firm which got a kickstart with two prestigious projects for the owner of Priyagold Biscuits at Noida and further with their new factory at Surajpur, Greater Noida. In the year 1995, a factory building project for Sai Security Printers at Faridabad inculcated humongous amount of confidence and intensified his project handling skills. Later in 2013, Acharya Balkishan gave Kapil Mehta & Associates a chance to design an industrial building for Patanjali Food and Herbal Park Padartha Haridwar.

Today Kapil Mehta & Associates handles various architectural and interior projects in Delhi, NCR and overseas. They are involved in designing and execution of a wide variety of projects from residential, group housings, commercial to industrial. With an ardent passion for their projects, they firmly believe in a complete amalgamation of functionality and aesthetical approach with technological blend in their designs, which acts as driving force for all their projects.

Mehta has been a key invitee in conferences held in various parts of the world. Besides holding various positions with professional bodies, he is also associated with architecture journalism and has been the editor for various publications of conferences and seminars including ARCASIA seminar on ‘Urban Renewal’ held in New Delhi. He was an official delegate from India for UIA Congress.
