Nya Nordiska— which is exclusively available through furnishings major, Maishaa, in India — has recently introduced their innovative collection made in collaboration with London-based product designer, Bodo Sperlein.  Five exclusive fabric innovations: Blast, Blitz, Boom, Balbo CS and Boja CS have their creative roots in Vorticism, a specifically English contribution to Modernism and combine natural inspiration with elements of Cubism.

Cubism inspired – Blast

Blast features Vorticist Cubist motif, as a generous jacquard pattern on a very fine thread cotton base. The collection is made from 70% cotton and 30% polyester, and is available in four colours. This versatile fabric can be used as a bedspread, and for curtains, cushions, panel curtains and roller blinds.

Graffiti-like – Blitz

In the same fabric quality as Blast, Blitz also displays cubic forms which appear strung together like collages to form an all-over pattern. The jagged shape of its blitz-like lightening radiates sheer energy looking almost like stylised graffiti. Its two colours in three soft colour combinations give the sizable jacquard made of fine-threaded cotton an optical presence without overemphasising the pattern. It is available in three colours, and is made from 70% cotton and 30% polyester. Blitz is best suited for bedspreads, curtains, cushions, panel curtains, roller blinds and table linen.

Durable and pretty – Boom

Boom is an innovative upholstery fabric that can also serve as a heavy drapery. The print design on recycled wool combines the look and feel of its natural material with a sense of sustainability. Combined with a synthetic fibre component (20% polyester-Martindale 60,000 rubs, 5% polyamide and 5% acrylic), Boom boasts of exceptional durability. Its graphic design corresponds to that of Blitz and can be created without pattern repeats. Available in four colour options, Boom can make beautiful bedspreads, cover fabrics, curtains, cushions and panel curtains.

Made with fire-retardant fibres – Balbo CS

Balbo CS features organic-looking dot elements which were conceived by Bodo Sperlein, and have their origin in the designer’s own handprint. A reference to nature and craftsmanship is also depicted in the textile interpretation of the motif. The dotting in this semi-transparent drapery fabric looks crosshatched, and is as individual in its outline as its natural prototype. Balbo CS offers a selection of five soft non-colours which are made from 100% Trevira CS, a material made out of fire-retardant fibres and yarns. Balbo is ideal for creating curtains, cushions, panel curtains and roller blinds.

Light and practical – Boja CS

Boja CS features a print design that uses Nya Nordiska’s popular, semi-transparent, top-quality Soufflé CS Uni (a fine floating polyester Trevira CS) as its base. The design sees threads which are linked to form a modern, net-like structure extending, almost coral-like, over the light-as-a-feather base fabric. As Boja CS is made from the fire-retardant Trevira CS, it can be also be used for adorning large window features on commercial premises. It is available is in a choice of four colours.
