Bringing the worlds of artisanal and joy-filled design together and imagined at the crossroads of joyful experimentation and an enduring craft, the TerraPop Collection presents a dynamic collaboration between Bharat Floorings and Tiles and Name Place Animal Thing.
The TerraPop Collection traces its roots to classic influences while celebrating the approach of unique exploration. This partnership driving this endeavour marks the revival of a centuries-old material, though with a new identity for spaces of today. The material displays a multitude of facets — Terrazzo’s almost candy-like appearance, sheer individuality, and its humble yet expressive persona.
Traversing a wide range of trendy lifestyle products such as mirrors, lamps, clocks, and a variety of desktop items, the collection focuses on an apparent sense of play in the products. The result is a collection of everyday objects that break away from their solely conventional role, bringing an element of ‘fun’ctionality to the spaces they become a part of. These lifestyle products have given rise to pieces that take on playful forms, intentionally contrasting the Terrazzo slab configuration that dominates the design landscape.
With Bharat Floorings & Tiles celebrating its centenary year as a homegrown design powerhouse, their intent spotlighted the desire to go beyond just floors. Merging their vision with Priyam Doshi, the Principal Designer at Name Place Animal Thing, unlocked an innovative dimension. Priyam is acclaimed for bringing his insight into endeavours with joy, playfulness, and intrigue at the core of all he creates!
- TARU COLLECTION OF HAND-TUFTED RUGS BY BFT – BFT X ECRU DESIGN:
Designed by Designer, Shibani Shetty of Ecru Design, in collaboration with BFT, the collection’s design inspiration comes from an innate affection for pieces with a history and from the belief that something worth owning now is worth owning forever. In mixing eras and styles, with an ever-present focus on quality, Shibani believes in designing products that encourage people to create collections that reflect their own unique lives while embracing quirks and individuality. For her, this collection is about growth and life.
Inspired by living things and organic forms, TARU (meaning tree in Sanskrit) was born with a strong connection to this majestic living form – imitating its rough edges, grooves, and imperfections. Through TARU, spaces change as elements of nature are brought into homes, adding more depth, texture, grandeur, and life.
The rugs in the collection are made from the most loved material – New Zealand wool and jasmine silk, which makes the rugs extra special. The rugs are hand-tufted by artisans from traditional backgrounds, whose families are still carrying forward the legacy. The material and the techniques lend a soft, natural touch, making it one of the most enjoyable rugs to walk on. The journey of a rug begins much more before a thread, it starts with an idea by the creator and then what material will be suitable for the design. The design of TARU is inspired by living things and organic forms, each rug has its own story, pattern, density, and flow, showcasing the beauty of the imperfections of a hand-drawn line by nature. These lines don’t start, or end anywhere but just continue across the rugs, imprinting their way through a self-renewing process – resulting in an endless continuity.
The materials used to create these rugs include wool, jasmine silk, and silk rayon.
- KOKESHI CANDELABRAS:
A perky set of stackable and reconfigurable candle holders to elevate your home décor, the candle holders are designed in the Japandi style of designs. The candle holders are minimalist designs that are aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. The candelabras glorify the beauty of handmade products with a focus on the quality of the product.
The forms of the candelabras are derived from various craft inventions. The stack-ability of the candelabras comes from the installation of earthen pots (matkis) made by earthenware craftsmen to sell pots in rural India. The soft rounded forms are derived abstractions of the handmade Kokeshi dolls from Japan. The Kokeshi dolls are referred to as a lucky charm that bring hopes for bountiful harvests, wishes for good luck and fortune, and great appreciation for craftsmanship and culture. The candelabras like the dolls are quintessential gifts to spread happiness and joy.
