Held at the illustrious Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, this prestigious event brings together over 300 master artisans from around the globe. Jaipur Rugs is honored to collaborate with acclaimed filmmaker and design visionary Luca Guadagnino and Nicolo Rosmarini, who have designed two monumental carpets for the occasion, each meticulously crafted to reflect the grandeur of two historically significant spaces.
A Contemporary Tribute to a Renaissance Masterpiece: The Cenacolo Palladiano Carpet
At an awe-inspiring 25 meters, the Cenacolo Palladiano Carpet is a magnum opus designed specifically for the Cenacolo Palladiano, a grand refectory conceived by the legendary architect Andrea Palladio. This room, the crown jewel of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, has been transformed by Luca Guadagnino’s visionary approach. Inspired by his watercolor painting for the Homo Faber 2024 logo, the carpet showcases a symphony of abstract block colors, offering a contemporary homage to the Renaissance masterpiece, The Wedding at Cana, a fresco by Paolo Veronese that adorns the room’s end wall.
In a poetic dialogue between past and present, the Cenacolo Palladiano Carpet by Jaipur Rugs will anchor a grand table overflowing with exquisite objects of craftsmanship from around the world. The result is an immersive scenography that reimagines the historical painting in a vibrant, living tableau.
The Padiglione delle Capriate Carpet: A Riot of Color and Form
Equally captivating, the Padiglione delle Capriate Carpet draws its energy from a postmodern palette of Memphis-inspired motifs and exuberant colors. Crafted in a striking rhombus shape, the carpet’s dynamic design commands the vast expanse of the Padiglione delle Capriate pavilion, anchoring the space with its bold, spirited proportions.
Both carpets, masterpieces of unparalleled scale and creativity, were brought to life in the legendary ateliers of Jaipur Rugs in Mirzapur, the historical epicenter of carpet weaving in northeast India. The collaboration took root following a visit to Jaipur by Andrea Tomasi, curator of Homo Faber. The complex design process spanned continents, with Luca Guadagnino conceptualizing the carpets in Milan, where Jaipur Rugs also has a gallery. The creation of the Padiglione delle Capriate Carpet, woven in five parts due to its extraordinary size, showcases the artisans’ mastery as they prepare to join the sections seamlessly on-site in Venice.
These carpets are among the largest ever created by Jaipur Rugs, reflecting the atelier’s unwavering commitment to preserving ancient traditions while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design.
