The promise of a quiet living in an abode.

A chic Calicut resident is transformed into a minimal lair, one that balances luxury and comfort almost too seamlessly. Designed by Nahal Ahammed and Anas Mohammed of Artystry, the 2770sqft dwelling holds all the promise of a quiet living, away from the bustling city.

“The brief was clear when Mr. Shafeer approached us, all he wanted was a minimal, contemporary dwelling that complements its topography, yet is a stark surprise from its surroundings,” says Anas, lead Designer and founder at Artystry. “Having been given a free rein by our client, we tried to bring up a unique and modern design that exhorts throughout the house, adds Nahal, lead designer and co-founder at Artystry.

Towering palm trees and lush tropical foliage surround the edifice. With its spotless white walls an open roof and a green screen, the bungalow reminisces a charming bygone era. Enter in, and the view of the living room and the dining area is demarcated through a metal screen. The linear arrangement of various zones inside the house ensures continuous airflow and ample of sunlight in every room. Set against a calming neutral palette, the interiors are crafted in soft wooden tones of plywood, mica, veneers and wood reapers that were custom designed by Artystry to accommodate the client’s needs as well complement his personality. The living room features a cosy black sofa facing the television which rests upon a stylish wooden console. The designers incorporated minimal accents and decor pieces so as to keep the area clutter-free.

The dining room is clearly the show-stopping element for both the client and the design duo. A sophisticated setup, the area combines the use of industrial elements and material play that creates a simplistic visual narrative set upon the backdrop of modern aesthetics. A striking industrial concept light fixture poses as a pleasing focal point here. To balance the strong design element, it is paired with textured wallpaper, Italian marble flooring and contemporary six-seater custom dining area; corian stone tabletop and stylish chairs to match. A traditional window bay attached to the dining opens up to the lush, tropical view that frames the residence. The sleek and contemporary kitchen includes plywood and mica-laminate cabinets and marble backsplash tiles.

Complementing the dining space is a staircase built with metals sheet and solid wood used for treads only. The metal rods as the balustrade form layers of texture here. Upstairs, the spatial corridor is brought to life by the charming hanging industrial lighting bolted against a wooden base, creating a dramatic visual interest.

For the master bedroom, solid wooden bed with attached side tables are used and is offset by the soft, textural rug at its base. Juxtaposing the subtle theme is a textured deep-hued wallpaper that adds more depth and dimension to the room. For the guest bedroom, similar treatment is provided. Here, a green textured wallpaper runs across the wall above the vertical wooden slatted headboard and attached mirror. Following the minimal- industrial theme from downstairs is a pendant lighting that hangs from the ceiling.
