This 2500 sq.ft tattoo artists studio is located in a well shaded, green by lane of Bandra. The interior design completely opposes the identity of a typical glass cladded commercial building it is situated in. The potted plants and natural light play the role of a protagonist in this tattoo studio, while generally most tattoo studios are experienced as loud, bold and out there.
While designing Iron Buzz, the designers were sure of one thing, they wanted to bring comfort, light and ease into this tattooing space. The tattoo section of this studio boasts 20’ high ceiling and large expansive north facing glass facades that are lined up with beautiful indoor plants.
Thinking out of the box.
During the renovation, they came up with an idea to house as many plants as they can which would take up nearly 50% of the volume. By shrinking the volume in a few sections, they achieved intimate entry points and consultation zones for the clients walking in. The double ceiling section was buffered with a green wall to create the experience of suspense for the clients. The main tattoo area with loads of light, plants and wooden flooring gives a perfect airy loft feel.
Flowing through the space.
The waiting area and consultation zone is designed in one free flowing space, majorly inspired by Ilse Crawford’s idea of an office. The consultation table is a long piece of Malaysian wood with benches on either side to ignite equality and comfort between a nervous client and the artist. The table was beautifully backed by a green screen full of money plants and fiddle figs.
Nitty-Gritties
The waiting area houses a couch with a coffee table welded by Parzan Daruwalla on site for some hands-on fun. The studio doesn’t fail to showcase all the achievements and artworks on the fluted polycarbonate sheet partitions. As a memory the old door from Eric & Diana’s previous studio was installed as an entry to their personal office space. To sync in with the clients’ belief that every artist is important, the team created a desk space accentuated with a yellow soft board to keep them chirpy through long hours of work.
As a whole, Iron buzz psychologically creates a comfort zone for all clients coming from far to get their tattoos done. Usually nervous about the needles, the long hours of inking sessions which create highs and lows for clients needed to be placed in a much peaceful environment.
