SSK celebrates modernity in tradition at this residential project in Mumbai

The 750sq-ft residence at Indraprastha in suburban Mumbai has been designed by SSK in a manner that aesthetics is combined with functionality

"The essence of interior design will always be about people and how they live. It is about the realities of what makes for an attractive, civilized, meaningful environment, not about fashion or what's in or what's out"                                                                                                                                                                     - Albert Hadley

Similarly, here SSK Associates is presenting this 750sq-ft residence at Indraprastha in suburban Mumbai, that has been composed in such a manner that not only aesthetics is kept in mind, but also functionality is a prime factor.

Starting with the entrance, this piece of art acts as a main door of this beautiful house, where 20-25 days have only been dedicated to craft this piece meticulously given four different finishes: inspired by the pixels concept, the door is finished in elegance, gracious grey, silver leafing and champagne leafing.

There is nothing more fulfilling than crafting a well-designed living room that is suitable for enjoying family time and entertaining loved ones. This primary spot sets the tone for the rest of the decor. It’s also one of the best places to showcase design aesthetics by experimenting with colour palettes, layers or textures and patterns.

Coming to the dining area, the hardness of the veneered dining table is complemented by Portuguese art which is handpainted. The softness of the upholstered dining bench and chairs in a subtle grey palette against the handpainted and orbicco marble wall adds drama/ character to the space. Understanding that sometimes minor factors play a vital role while designing a space, the spiral dining light on the ceiling, accessories and planters have been carefully placed.

The idea while designing the master bedroom (above) was to take a very rustic approach in the overall look and feel of the decor. The stone finish backdrop of the leather bed camaflouges the door, and the warmth is added by finishing the wardrobe in veneer.

The parents bedroom (below) is a perfect amalgamation of modern design with traditional art. The handpainted artwork on the wardrobe depicts Portuguese history, while the magnificent bed headboard has exquisite details and is finished with suede velvet fabric and champagne finish on the edges.

The office space is defined by an eclectic approach to achieve a common thread in colour, form or beauty. And lastly, the kitchen has a very muted palette, keeping it understated, simple and functional.
