Burgeoning developments of luxury farmhouses pepper outskirts of South Delhi. As such, the term ‘farmhouse’ has come to represent an idiosyncratic canon of architecture that revels in its own particular definition of escape. The Panther House was a similarly aspirational endeavour to create an oasis away from the city. The home is organised into independent wings with cascading roofs that emerge out of rich greenscapes. Keenly aligned with Vastu principles, the home balances both modernity and tradition inherently.
Leveraging expansive square footage, architect Aparna Kaushik creates a deconstructed Rubik’s cube layout that ensures the outdoors is visible from every section of the home. This oasis, true to its form, is not only a sanctuary from city-life but also an observatory for pristine, natural surroundings.
Working synergistically with the resident, Kaushik envisaged a comfortable and welcoming home that also boasts a bold and peculiar design signature. For instance, a cigar lounge sits nestled between the garden and the main wing. Its bespoke interiors feature the silhouette of a panther elevated on black mosaic. An emerald green crystal shines through the eye of the panther as subtle mood lighting.
A book leaf design bar table in metal and stone echoes the inventive use of polished materials. In contrast, a coconut shell panelled ceiling and mahogany floor impart warmth and elegance. In the waiting area, a real street lamp stands incongruously poignant against a floral chaise and oversized black planters.
Striking an inventive balance of modernity, traditional and individuality, Panther House exudes a disparate amalgamation of styles and aesthetics that ultimately make it the structure it was intended to be – an immersive escape from the typical. The tall glazing in family lounge allows the nature to pour in and make the area look more grand and serene.Â
In the master bathroom, a mirror is substituted with a print of Rene Magritte’s The Son of Man. The surrealist self-portrait is symbolic of a mirror image and self-reflection. The juxtaposition is thematic of the homes sweepingly dramatic design ethos as well as its occasional playfulness.Â
Traversing through spaces that seamlessly flow into each other, The Panther House makes the best of nature with daylight bathing the corridors and large windows framing the garden views. Located in plush green area on the outskirts of south Delhi, this villa boasts the best of tropical architecture, pristine white marble flooring and large windows. You never leave nature in the Panther House.
About Aparna Kaushik:
Aparna Kaushik is a Renaissance woman in the truest sense of the word. Initially drawn towards a career in medicine, Kaushik instead applied her inherent fascination with molecular constructs to create cohesive spaces that embody the symmetry and synchronisation of a living being. She is the founding principal and design director of an eponymous, design-and-build firm that works across architecture, interiors, furniture, lighting, product design and landscaping. Her design ethos is built on a studied balance of art and architectural history that fuses classical composition with contemporary flair and pragmatic precision to integrate the client’s most explicit requirements and subtle preferences.
