A calm and soothing abode

This Mumbai home plays up stunning sea views in its design

Postcard worthy sunsets on view through the large window. A tinge of green with warm wooden flooring that connects to the deck, not only expanding the sense of space, but leveraging the seascape too. This relaxed, spacious apartment in one of Mumbai’s prime suburbs is quite the dream home. “Everyone lives a hectic life in this buzzing city and this place is a tranquil spot, after a long day of work,” say Khushnuma Patel and Kartik Patel, the principal designers and brother-sister duo behind kays studio.

A highlight is the teenage boy’s room, which is fashioned as a space where he can relax, think well and function efficiently. Colour plays an important role here. Blending with the occupant’s taste and personality, the designers went with a modern, yet rustic look, using a grey and wooden palette with accents of blue for the wardrobe and a hint of metal thrown in. “We have designed a low-height bed with a platform continuing in an L-shape, so that the resident can sit next to the window and read a book, while enjoying the outside view, and also play carefree,” says the pair. The room also sports a statement, customised pendant light.
