The home inspired by the show ‘Gilmore Girls’ was the exact brief given to the designer by her clients – a family of four and a pet dog. The vision was to give this family a home that is a place of warmth amid their daily routine as doctors. Working on a colour palette and mood boards was the first step in the direction to create such a space. The challenge was to create a chic home packed with colours, quirk and playfulness but at the same time giving a sense of oneness without being overwhelming or too bold for the end users.
Living like Lorelai
The beautiful nook in the living room with a lush green backdrop is adorned by a chaise with soft floral prints that perfectly complements the long rustic orange sofa just like the pink sofa from the show and the cool blue textures behind the wall. Moulding on the T.V unit coupled with an arch-shaped partition in fluted glass and wall light fixtures completes the look of the living room. Cool wall colours along with a rustic orange upholstery, large rug, and veneer add the much required comfort and warmth to the TV room.
The choice of keeping the shades of blue in every space together with Playful, vibrant colours and Fluted glass textures was a conscious decision to maintain the continuity and visual rhythm. The dining room has a light cyan blue PU-coated crockery unit put together with warm wine-red coloured roller blinds and chair upholstery. The tall crockery unit is paired with fluted glass shutters, and copper handles to create a sleeker look.
Rory’s Sanctuary
The passage walls leading to the daughter’s room are cladded with beautiful pastel floral wallpaper complementing the floral patterns in the rest of the area. The window seat adjoining the cozy corner is set up with the study table, small shelves, and blue pendant light highlighting the bright yellow wall. The wooden poles and powder blue headboard with soft sheer curtains add a sense of coziness and a boho chic feel to the whole room. The standing mirror with a white brick wall at the back and a wall of light fixtures are additional elements to make the boho chic look complete.
Necessary nooks
Master Bedroom is nothing short of elegance and cheerfulness at the same time. It is packed with beautiful textures and colours. Warm yellow coloured walls against the rich deep bottle green headboard and settees, textured wardrobe were the first choices for the Master Bedroom. Chevron patterned side table with subtle pendant light on top, and soft floral wallpaper cladded window shutters add a Gilmore Girl style quirk to the whole elegance. The patterned tile floor in the nook cuts the corner from the rest of the wooden floored room with a lounge chair and rug, making it a nice reading corner.
This space is sure to take every Gilmore Girls admirer back in time with its playful medley of colours.
