#AIExclusive: The ‘Saral’ apartment in Noida manifests elegance with straight-forward design

“Saral” from Hindi translates to easy and effortless, an apt name for this Noida house designed by J+AM Storey. The residence follows a philosophy of minimalism, offering bare essentials that create simple and uncluttered spaces of understated sophistication and a distinctly Indian character.

Simple form follows succinct function

Concentrating on simple forms, details and calm colours, it’s all about the functionality of the core. A perfect blend of earthy tones, monochrome palette, subtle textures and sober colour theme adds to the cosy interiors. Minimal mood board and pastel upholstery balance with the overall muted shades of grey. A nuanced curation of elements all work together with seamless cohesion.

An addition of pops of green soothes visually, cultivates freshness and connects the indoor zones with nature. Sunlight sweeps every corner, highlighting textural nuances. Beautifully patterned tiles in the corridor break monotony while adding aesthetic flair. Bespoke teak and cane furniture suffuses warmth into the house. Sleek silhouettes of pendant lights with metallic finishes grace the design, concocting a hint of contemporary luxury.

Evolution of the configuration

The compact apartment houses a family of four. An avid reader, the homeowner desired a library right at the entrance of the house and a separate puja room. An open-shelved rack of books in the foyer instantly adds personality and colour to the living room. Incorporating the balcony space inside the living room, a puja room was born, segregated by art deco-esque fluted glass forms from the public living room while allowing natural light to filter through in an ambient glow.

An ode to tradition

Originally from Bihar, the homeowner wanted to design to have Indian traditional flourishes. Madhubani artwork thus adorns the house, connecting visual language to cultural roots. A smattering of curios and personal artefacts around the house add a dash of culture.

Bedrooms that capture personality

The master bedroom conveys a sombre self-expression of simplicity. Touches such as incorporation of a traditional print on the bed and rustic wooden furnishings that exude old-world charm, this bedroom transports in time. Conversely, the children’s bedroom are strikingly contemporary, flaunting a typical blue and pink theme for the son and daughter respectively. Vibrant wallpaper introduces quirkiness in the son’s bedroom whereas a floral pink for the daughter’s bedroom adds feminine touch. While

Minimalism binds the spaces, orchestrating a serenity and soulfulness in every corner of this home.
