It rejects standardized modular workstations and uniform layouts, embracing a Vastu-compliant setup—the primary requirement of the client’s brief—where each desk is strategically oriented to face north or east. This adherence to Vastu principles, alongside customized workstations and tailored lighting solutions based on detailed behavioral studies, underscores a commitment to harmonizing productivity with holistic well-being.
A contemporary palette
Strategic use of color defines distinct zones within the office, imparting a subtle hierarchy that balances formal professionalism with a vibrant, engaging atmosphere reminiscent of Google-like offices. Natural light floods the space, complemented by seamless concrete flooring and verdant greenery, fostering a refreshing and contemporary ambiance. Terracotta, sage green, blue, and green hues not only enhance visual appeal but also contribute to a serene environment conducive to concentration and creativity.
This office uniquely bridges the gap between dynamic, open-office layouts favored by tech companies and the structured elegance found in corporate settings such as law firms or financial institutions. It embodies a forward-thinking approach to post-COVID office design, emphasizing adaptability and employee satisfaction.
Tradition meets technology
Upon entering, a curved parametric wall pays homage to the client’s core values, intertwining technology and tradition. This parametric design continues into the conference area, forming an acoustic ceiling. The open-plan bullpen, or general staff area, features custom-designed workstations based on their behavioral study. Departing from standard four-legged tables, a curved pipe is bent to form structures that also serve as wrist supports, enhancing the staff’s environment.
A contemporary interpretation of a traditional temple adds a spiritual touch to the bullpen, while the director’s room contrasts with moody tones, reflecting personal taste and providing a retreat from the colorful, bustling environment. The pantry is designed for relaxation and reflection, with earthy tones and soothing graphics.
In the spotlight
Lighting plays a crucial role in office workspace design, significantly impacting mood, productivity, and overall efficiency. The integration of light within partitions forms vertical light sources, complemented by a customized grid lighting system in the ceiling. The main ambient lighting element, a custom-designed C-channel with vertical lights, diverges from standard technical fixtures to create a unique experience. Lighting was integrated into the design from the outset rather than being an afterthought. In common areas, a customized grid of profile lights and large circular drums offer even light distribution and control of intensity throughout the day.
In essence, “A Square Peg in a Round Hole” not only sets a new standard for office aesthetics but also redefines the workplace as a dynamic, inclusive environment that promotes collaboration, creativity, and well-being. It exemplifies how thoughtful design can transform spaces into inspiring hubs that meet the evolving demands of modern businesses and their workforce.
