The client wanted his newly purchased apartment in the upscale location of Gurugram to be his new home. A four-bedroom apartment with closed foyer area, dining and drawing room enclosed and separated by walls made the large apartment look smaller, and client wanted it to be open and connected. The brief for the interiors were to be distinctly modern, not minimalist but tasteful.
The apartment was going to be home to 3 generations, a young couple, their two very young daughters and mother. Each age group had a distinct requirements and tastes in choices and colours. They wanted their common spaces to be warm, rich, welcoming and well connected, the kitchen to be functional, one bedroom to be converted to home office and other three bedrooms to be of individual tastes of the occupant. Another major requirement in the brief was ample storage space in the apartment.
Maximising functionality with aesthetics
The interiors are designed with meticulous attention to detail, creating a statement décor. The entrance corridor and foyer are seamlessly integrated to obscure direct views into the drawing and dining areas, enhancing privacy. To maximize the apartment’s spatial perception and optimize natural light, several walls were removed to unify common spaces. Storage alcoves previously in the corridors were repositioned into the drawing and dining areas, now cleverly concealed to blend seamlessly with the design.
The front bedroom has been converted into a home office, designed to accommodate visitors without disrupting the household. The office’s attached bathroom was reconfigured as a powder room, with an opening created towards the foyer. Each bedroom features a distinct color palette tailored to individual preferences while harmonizing with the overall theme of the apartment. This thoughtful design approach ensures both functionality and aesthetic cohesion throughout the space.
Down to the details
The design project transformed the apartment by removing walls to merge the foyer, drawing room, dining area, and corridor into a spacious, light-filled common area. The entrance features a striking black ceiling with ninety inverted copper bowls, repurposed as dimmable lights that create a warm, welcoming ambiance. The focal point is an intricate Pichwai artwork from the client’s collection.
A smooth transition in colour and design leads to the living and dining areas, where rich white Lhasa marble flooring brightens the space. The living room wall, clad in Gwalior stone with a CNC-cut leaf pattern, provides a dramatic backdrop. The ceiling, adorned with a simple teak wood border, highlights the bespoke chandelier’s handcrafted glass leaves. Solid teak wood flooring in a herringbone pattern adds warmth throughout. The master bedroom extends the living area’s warm tones, complemented by a continuous TV and study unit in Statuary marble and dark brown PU.
