Decoding the brief
The client had a fifteen-year-old property which was to be designed to reflect their personality. Since the couple was fond of modern, contemporary architecture, the brief was to conceptualise the entire space and draft a furniture layout that caused no interruptions in the residents’ use of the space. The studio was tasked to transform the villa and its usage through intervention in structure as well as the furniture layout and its functions.
As a family of four, they wanted something that would feel personal to them and their aesthetics. The home had to look simple and timeless. The idea was to make something they would like ten years later and make and source locally. The client desired a spacious area that could comfortably accommodate larger gatherings and events.
Concept to design Â
The design intervention was crucial for this apartment! The clients didn’t have any specific design preferences, but they did want a diverse range of materials and colours to be incorporated. We had the vision to adapt our signature style to perfectly match the client’s needs and the space itself. With our fresh design, the structure of the residence came to life. Every detail of the furniture layout was carefully planned to ensure a seamless transition between all the spaces. The long hall, originally designated as a dining area, underwent a magical transformation into a whimsical living room, while the small living area gracefully evolved into a stunning dining room. There is a seamless flow between the living room, family seating area, and dining area. The open floor plan creates a welcoming atmosphere and makes it easier to move between the spaces. To create spaces that flow into each other cohesively, the formal living room has been transformed into an open plan. The residence boasts a seamless flow of interior spaces, characterized by a captivating sense of continuity and unification.
Carving Spaces
Singhal’s Residence, located in Jaipur’s Pink City, was designed for a couple who enjoys modern, contemporary architecture. The residence conceptualizes the many volumes within the 2350 sq. ft. apartment by incorporating traditional features into a modern definition.
As you enter this house, you step into the foyer that leads you to the family lounge and dining room with a screen separating the two. Natural light streams in through floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the opulent bespoke furnishings indoors. The entrance foyer is marked by a custom-made, polyester-painted round table, a hand-tufted rug, and a majestic chandelier. The flooring has been transformed by using wooden and Indian white marble with brass inlay. The entire apartment has been enlivened by vibrant pops of colour to harmonise the space with its context but also mark it. Two seating pockets have been created in the living area—one is characterized by the vibrant red sofas and the other by a magnificent green. The artwork placed on the walls is created by the client herself and functions as an entity with the ability to provoke feelings both in the user and the non-user. This way the apartment isn’t a building anymore but gains movement and life.
The intricately detailed dining room meets luxurious conviviality where the Crystal chandeliers crown the exquisite marble inlay top table paired with classic chairs. The dining room adds to the opulence through its printed crockery cabinet, fresh prints for upholstery, and repurposed and polished chairs. And the surrounding artworks and decor accessories create an environment full of character and warmth. We incorporated stainless steel rotatable panels, adorned with fabric and mirrors, to elegantly divide the foyer and the dining area. This has been done to make the space appear bigger while maintaining privacy for the guests. The drawing room spells regality with its mauve and cream colour profile and a centre table ornamented with Thathera (hand-beaten brass inlay) work. Â
The private retreat
All three bedrooms—the master bedroom, the younger son’s room and the elder son’s room have been designed to reflect the individual personalities of the occupants. The younger son’s love for the Avengers is transmitted into the interiors through Avenger figurines and artwork used as decorative elements in the bedroom. The blinds are customized according to the wall panelling. The master bedroom is smattered with red prints against a muted colour backdrop to make it brighter and of greater comfort. An olive green Ottoman, layers of burnt orange, cream and grey transform the elder son’s room into a space reflective of a contemporary design language. The entire home is a luxe, comfy heaven enhanced with artwork, furniture spruced in gold polish, and plush fabrics. Soft mood lighting and warm materials accentuate the design approach, which is characterized by modern forms, minimal elements, and clean lines. bespoke furniture, attention to detail, and a couple of stand-out pieces endow the space with a warm and welcoming vibe.Â
