The client’s brief was to convert this 4 BHK apartment into a 3 BHK that has 1 master bedroom, 1 guest room, and 1 bedroom for their daughters, with a simple yet modern and elegant design. The client also requested that the new design maximise the use of natural light and create a sense of spaciousness within the limited square footage of the apartment.
The project was termed straight-line contemporary because emphasis on Scandinavian tones with the use of wood gives the house a warm, pleasant, and simplistic appearance. The firm also incorporated large windows to bring in natural light and enhance the connection between the interior and exterior spaces. The result is a modern yet cosy home that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.
A sophisticated arrangement
Wood was enlisted as the design inspiration, as a way to invite natural materials and give the apartment a serene, cozy, and elegant atmosphere. The combination of wood and marble not only gave the apartment a natural and elegant look but also provided a perfect balance between warmth and sophistication. The result was a comfortable and inviting space that exuded an air of luxury.
When entering the apartment from the south, there is a servant’s quarter with an exterior entrance. A large private sitting space may be found by walking straight. The apartment’s west portion is separated into an informal living space, a guest bedroom to the north, and a master bedroom to the south. The apartment has a formal living space, a dining area, and a TV area on the east side and a communal washroom, a kitchen area with a storage room, and a kids’ bedroom on the southeast side. Each bedroom includes an attached bathroom and built-in walk-in closets. The apartment also has a servant’s quarter bathroom, which is accessible from the unit’s outside. The large windows in both living spaces offer stunning views of the city skyline.
Scandinavian finishes
The biggest challenge was trying to impress the client’s wife, who also happened to be an architect, from the selection through the elevation of the project on-site. Despite the challenges, the team managed to successfully navigate through the project and eventually gained the trust and satisfaction of both the client and his wife. The final result was a beautiful and functional building that exceeded their expectations.
With a focus on Scandinavian tones the use of wood gave the house a warm, pleasant, and simplistic appearance, as we named the project straight-line contemporary. Marble flooring was used in all the spaces, saving the bedrooms, to complement the wooden components and create a hint of fusion. The incorporation of marble flooring in the common areas not only adds to the contemporary feel of the house but also provides durability and ease of maintenance. The fusion of wood and marble creates a unique and elegant aesthetic that is both inviting and functional.
Touch of elegance
Neutral tones were used for the master and guest bedrooms to give them a more warm and classy appearance, while pastel tones were used for the daughters’ bedroom to give it a serene and playful aspect. Additionally, modern art pieces were incorporated for the side tables with wall artwork to add pops of colour and texture to each room, creating a cohesive and visually appealing design.
The TV room’s hidden bar counter was one of the most celebrated design features. The client desired a bar counter that is hidden but is still accessible during gatherings and parties. To meet the client’s requirements, a bar counter was designed such that it can be concealed behind a sliding panel when not in use. The panel can be easily moved to reveal the bar counter during parties and gatherings, adding an element of surprise and excitement to the space.
