See flexible workspaces in a new light through the refreshing design of this Rajkot office

Omniscient, an 821 sq ft office located in a multi-storey building of the business capital of Saurashtra, Rajkot is a corner block having spectacular view of the grand 150 ft Ring Road which draws footfall to showrooms and businesses.

The client particularly intended to create a different-feeling, flexible workspace. Space requirement consisted of three Director chambers with a manager chamber and optimum open space for staff such that requirement of the full-time receptionist can be avoided. While on a constricting budget, judicious utilisation of the floor space was the priority. Apart from this a subdued colour palette was chosen to maintain a contemporary look.

Fluid interactions

While designing, it was ensured that the building’s character was preserved and its fewer components were utilised as design elements. The spatial configuration was laid in a certain manner that every space inside the office gets optimum diffused natural light in order to make the space live and instill a sense of freshness. The core director chambers were placed adjacent to the window face while the reception cum waiting and the staff area were placed in the anterior part.

All chambers on the sides and a reception and waiting area in the middle illustrates the imperative openness. The office planning was developed in a certain way that circulation was given utmost priority. That induced a sense of openness in the entire office. Mixed use of both natural and artificial planters were arranged in the buffer space between the windows and the building exterior skin and in the common central space which ensured a live working environment.

Sleek and sophisticated

There was almost no use of wooden surfaces in the entire office which gave a sleek and contemporary look. The overall theme reflects a sense of calmness in a modern contemporary setting. Alternatives to expensive natural materials such as Italian marble were used in all the table countertops which had similar aesthetic perception which could balance the overall budget of the project. The attention to detail on the wall and in the furniture can be seen here, adding even more interest to the entrance area. Hanging planters and gold accents on the entrance wall serve as focal elements of the entire space.

The colour palette used consisted largely of pastel tones, be it in walls, flooring and furniture. Large slab flooring tiles were used to attain the grandeur which had certain gold-coloured figures running across the white base. To compliment it the glass partitions had a gold PVD edge profile running across all the edges which gave a sleek look. Also, these clear glass partitions generated demarcation without compromising on the unobstructed view of the entire view from any corner.

Bathed in natural light

The director tables’ front facia included CNC carved HDHMR pattern which was washed down by an indirect profile light which demonstrated an optimum play of artificial lighting in a muted surrounding. Wooden window blinds provided optimum opening flexibility such that the user can control the amount of natural lighting flowing into the space, aiding additional aesthetic appearance.

The combination of various materials, lighting fixtures, geometry and colours supports each space’s unique identity while adhering to the design language.
