“We wanted to create a space that conveys a sense of ageless sophistication and refinement, by integrating neutral marbles and textures to heighten the tactile experience of the house,” explains Bina Bhatia, Principal Architect at The Blank Slate, “ultimately shaping a perfect sanctuary that feels indulgent and calming.”
Focus on fuzzy
From the living room to the bedrooms, every space in this elegant residence celebrates the serenity of white truly encapsulating the concept of peaceful sophistication. The large backdrop wall is creatively disrupted by the strategic use of color blocking using complementary shades of ecru and cream, decorative mouldings, and a locally sourced hand-painted framed mirror adds depth and visual interest. Soft and fuzzy furnishings have been strategically placed throughout the room to create a truly inviting atmosphere, encouraging relaxation and comfort. The stone white-colored sectional and delicate sheer linen drapes in the living room have been meticulously chosen to create a composed atmosphere that radiates a sense of ethereal tranquility. The central arrangement of tables and hurricanes adds rich color contrast and textural play completing the poetic composition.
The dining area features a creamy texture of the ivory-veined marble dining table and vanilla leather chairs that infuse the space with a sense of luxury. The linear bronze chandelier casts a warm glow, highlighting the nuances of the all-white scheme and injecting a touch of glamour into the design. The adjacent bar unit, with its thinly flutted shutters and marble backsplash, showcases the beauty of raw materials, adding tactile quality.
The bedrooms continue the theme of European inspired design, featuring plush suede bedding, wooden flooring, and pearl white wardrobes that lend a touch of luxury. In the main bedroom, curvilinear forms reminiscent of hand-modeled clay complement the ribbed wall behind, which is punctuated by an abstract art piece. The secondary bedroom’s composition of moulded frames adorns the wall behind the bed, with mirrors flanking the side tables and a classical floral wallpaper at the center, creating a striking focal point. The wardrobe’s sliding shutters are half-flutted and accented with gold fittings, adding a faint touch of opulence to the room. Together, these bedrooms showcase the versatility of monotone design and the power of minimalism to create spaces that are both captivating and deeply comforting.
A tranquil retreat
The uncluttered aesthetic of the house allows the eye to focus on the subtleties of the ivory and cream hues, creating a tranquil ambiance that is both elegant and enticing. Like an artist working with a palette of whites, The Blank Slate thoughtfully curated each element of the house to achieve a harmonious balance of tones, textures and patterns. The result is a meditative and timeless environment that invites the occupants to relax and enjoy the beauty of the subtle shades of white.
Meaning in monotone
Stepping into the House of White is a breathtaking experience that showcases the skillful artistry of monochromatic design. The apartment is carefully crafted and perfectly balances monochromatic abstraction with soft tonal shifts, resulting in a harmonious symphony of light and shadow that celebrates the timelessness of white. From the striking contrast of ivory and bone in the kitchen to the understated elegance of the living room, each space manifests the perfect balance of the various hues and tones of white.
The House of White is a true testament to the transformative power of monochrome design, offering a glimpse into a world of serenity, simplicity, and finesse.
