A single, delightful brief included the fact that the client’s house must not only consist of four human members but also a beloved pet. Their apartment boasts a breathtaking view from its location on the 28th floor, and the clients expressed a desire for a modern, minimalist, functional aesthetic.
Space imitates lifestyle
Each home is distinct and tailored to the specific needs of its inhabitants, as is the case with the clients. In this instance, their lifestyle served as the primary source of inspiration. The inspiration came from the family’s transition to a better lifestyle and evolving needs. In addition to the desire for a new, modern, and minimalistic design, the changing dynamics of the growing family also served as inspiration.
By integrating the lounge space into the main living area and creating continuity from the living room to the dining area and the lounge, the designers were able to create a seamless flow throughout the home. The use of different colour tones in each area helped to break up the space visually while maintaining a cohesive overall design.
Optimising openness
The kitchen, despite being tucked away in one corner, was designed to be a stunning centre of attention, featuring a beautiful bright sage colour that can be admired from the dining area.
Given that the apartment was a high-rise building, the scope for structural changes was limited. However, since the family was relatively small, it was determined that five bedrooms were more than their requirements. To optimise the available space, one of the bedrooms was repurposed as a utility area and fitted with a laundry room and powder room.
The fourth bedroom underwent a more significant transformation, with the removal of one of its walls to create a sense of infinity that would be immediately apparent from the entrance. This area was then converted into a family lounge, adding to the home’s liveability and comfort. The remaining three bedrooms were allocated as the master bedroom and two separate rooms for the sons.
Bold and blended
The majority of the wall finishes in the apartment comprised cream and pastel hues, with a beautiful veneer wall serving as a striking feature on the right-hand side. To the left, an emerald green sofa added a touch of vibrancy to the space. At the same time, the master bedroom walls were adorned with sage-coloured mouldings that exuded elegance and sophistication.
The only area where solid colours were incorporated was the lounge, where a canary yellow sofa and Afghan Kilim were introduced to create a bold and playful atmosphere.
This home crafts a harmonious blend between the culturally and literarily unique lifestyles of the inhabitants to create a space that is eventually catered to their interests and needs.
