Snooze under the warm Bhilwara sun from this snug three-storey home

In the dreamy Bhilwara landscape, Surbhi Bansal of Project 1505 and Dinkle Sonegara of Studio23.Eight mix colours into minimalism, drench them in natural light and define a new idea of easy living into this home.

Home to a newly married couple living with their parents, it was critical to design a space that didn’t just give them privacy but also brought the family together and could accommodate for the generational growth. The 2,600 sq ft triple storied house sits on a plot size of 30’x50’ in the textile city Bhilwara, Rajasthan.

Ballet of spaces

The ground floor houses the formal and the informal living areas which are flanked by the staircase on one side and a powder room on the other, between which sits a minimalistic dining setup overlooking the kitchen. The staircase becomes the core light well of the house being capped with a skylight. Rosewood treads overlap the folded metal treads and risers creating a good balance of bold and sleek. The same balance is achieved in the railing as well with slender metal rods tying the balusters together which are all held in place by a wooden handrail.

Intriguing identity

Each space has its own play of colours in the furniture and furnishings and lush green plants brightening the only colour muted spaces: living and dining room. The vibrancy of the formal living room could bring life into any conversation with the guests whereas the neutral palette of the informal living is to sit back and relax. The black dome coffee table sits glamorously amongst all the colours in the drawing room. An exquisite stone veneer wall harmonised with teak wood strips sets the parents’ bedroom apart.

Walls and ceilings clad in wood and stone selectively paired together interrupted with colours in the furniture highlight the simplicity of this house. Seamless cement tone floor tiles across the house become the perfect canvas to start painting a picture that doesn’t shout for attention and subtly brings the client’s prismatic personality to life.

The art of unwinding

Amongst the vivid upholstery in the master bedroom, soft, eggshell white walls and furniture in wood and black metal paint a picture of unspeakable serenity.

The lounge looking into the balcony and the cosy window nook to relax became the clients’ favourites for the light drama that the setting sun creates there every evening. Silk and linen sheer curtains balance the bold sofa of the area with hints of subtle finesse. A bespoke chevron pattern in veneer becomes the foreground of the space.

Introduction of arches and pastel colours in the kid’s room induces playfulness in the right measure. Seating along the large windows becomes a spot to indulge into creative activities.

The topmost floor features a terrace garden under a louvered canopy framing the sky elegantly. The guest bedroom is minimal out of intention and not deprivation. A patterned headboard nominally accentuates the wall of an otherwise bare room.
