Elegance isn’t just found in grandeur; it often resides in the subtle details, where simplicity meets luxury in quiet harmony. For a family of five — a couple, their mothers, and a young daughter — this philosophy shaped their vision for a 2,500 sq ft, 4BHK residence in the eastern reaches of Bengaluru.
Weaving warmth into luxury
When they turned to Jois Design House, their brief was clear: a home that embodies contemporary sophistication, yet laced with whispers of subtle luxury. Designer Ananya Jois of her namesake practice approached this through an engaging array of hues and textures, waltzing between elegant restraint and dynamic charm. Each room was curated to echo the distinct personalities of the family members while contributing to a cohesive whole that radiated calm refinement. Its name, ‘The Flux Abode’, celebrates this evolving transformation of personal style and character.
As the home unfolds, an elongated foyer introduces a tall shoe storage unit with fluted panels, providing ample space for the family’s extensive footwear collection. A soft embrace of neutral tones reign the communal areas, a carefully considered palette that allows the family to effortlessly transform the ambiance with the shifting tides of their design sensibilities. Rich walnut accents anchor the space, weaving warmth into the narrative through the slender silhouette of the media cabinet and the sculpted presence of the expansive crockery cum bar unit. Gleaming sprinkles of brass insinuate classic allure, providing a graceful nod to the family’s yearning for understated opulence.
Graceful functionality
“In the living space, an existing niche was reimagined into a cozy alcove”, Ananya reveals. Adorned with a spirited wallpaper, it fulfils the lady of the house’s desire for a lively photo booth, adding a playful touch to the chic room.” The kitchen was reconfigured from a galley layout into an open U-shape, enhancing functionality. Aglow in mustard golden laminates with acrylic finish, the culinary zone was meticulously planned to balance privacy with connectivity, seamlessly blending with the communal area while retaining its own distinct character. Adjacent, a puja unit is accessed by a tailor-made door with bells, adding a gentle, melodious welcome to the sacred space. The Om symbol, delicately rendered in a CNC cut-out, pairs with sleek walnut shelves to create a minimal yet serene spiritual corner.
Ananya adds, ”the traditional angular openings of the kitchen and alcove were bartered for shoulder flat arches for a more fluid aesthetic, and framed by sleek wooden moulding.” This language of delicate bends transcends into the bed chambers, echoing the home’s commitment to graceful transitions.
Exquisite elegance
In the master suite, an ivory wall with floral wallpaper in squircles provides an exquisite backdrop for the emerald green bed. The daughter’s bedroom emerges as a pink-hued dreamscape, highlighted by a cloud shaped false ceiling and a dual laminate cupboard. A spacious study corner completes the space, perfectly suited for her developmental years.
The matriarchs’ quarters present contrasting styles: one room brims with the whimsical charm of bohemian wallpaper, while the other juxtaposes the ruggedness of concrete texture with the vibrance of teal details. Common to all are the vogue arched dressing mirrors and adeptly crafted storage solutions, which sidestep a bulky look through a deliberate interplay of solids and voids.
At The Flux Abode, the synergy of timeless elements and distinct characteristics orchestrate a living that interweaves individuality and unity, all while optimising functional aspects. The abode is exemplary in showcasing how strategic nuances can forge an environment that grows with its occupants, embodying their journey through time.
