The clients aim was clear: To craft a modern home grounded by cosy interiors filled with character and timeless elements. “I was brought on to build upon these ideas and create a more mature and nuanced vision of their home” So The Space Tales by Kissa Zehra got to work – designing and focusing on interiors to bring a sense of intimacy to the large house.
“We used panelled walls, intricate moulding profiles, antique mirrors and wallpapered ceilings to create spaces that feel good on their own, even without the added layers of furnishings”, a subtle earthy colour palette—achieved through furnishings and fixtures–warms the house throughout.
Antique drama
An aged old, intricately carved wooden console set against the dramatic deep grey panelled wall and antique mirrors welcomes you to the lovely home. Kissa styles the space with loads of greens by the window and collaborated with IAAH to amp up the look and set the tone for the house.
IAAH brand from Delhi who has a lovely collection of décor items. The Space Tales have collaborated with them and used the charcoal black vases, wooden carved pieces etc. throughout the house adding a personal touch. The range varies from modern to eclectic soothing to everyone’s personality.
Transition into timelessness
In this open-concept layout, Kissa Zehra created distinct zones. The formal living room is a combination of beige sofa and checker sofa chairs paired with a beautiful vintage centre table and side tables with polished marble tops. The space is anchored by a raw wooden log TV ledge. The area seamlessly flows into the bar area and dining table. The transition between the two spaces needed to become an integral part of the design.
Antique mirror concept from the lobby is used for the Bar back with a louvered bar counter and marble top unifying the space together. The brass edges and skirting details with rich materials lend the space an understated luxury. “We applied a modern mind-set to timeless design, creating a layered space they won’t tire of quickly.”
The Mandir isn’t tucked away and hidden from view, it opens into the main passageway. So we approached its design with the same amount of care and consideration. The Mandir shutters are designed with fluted glass and small bass bell details. The insides are finished with floral wallpaper and calming marble idols.
A modern fusion
“The rooms are large, but they still feel cozy,” says Kissa Zehra. The wooden 4 poster bed in the master bedroom, reminiscent of a boutique hotel. “The colour palette we used is saturated in tones and takes on a slightly sun-bleached character”. Surrounded by windows, this space is all about simplicity and balance. The vintage carved bed with a modern glass wardrobe and wallpapered ceiling is a perfect Modern fusion, resulting in a home like a breath of fresh air. “It has a modern sensibility, but it isn’t stark”. The second bedroom continues the story with a simple pallet of off-whites and wooden bed.
The beautiful rugs from Siva Delhi add a dynamic layer to the space and lend a chance to add popping colour to the spaces. The varied print and patterns of the carpets tells the story of the house in one gulp.
Kissa has tried to bring the clients fantasies and wishes of their dream home to fruition while using her ability to make every square foot purposeful and intentional. “Working on the project was tough but the happy faces of the client made every minute worth it” recalls Kissa Zehra.
