Garden City’s Italian specialty restaurant, has earned its tongue-in-cheek moniker
of ‘fun-dining’ thanks to its association with ‘fun’ initiatives like art – not
just in the artful creation and display of its cuisine, but also in its
promotion and display of contemporary Indian art. For instance, Prego has just unveiled
its new menu of authentic yet innovative gourmet flavours from Genoese cuisine
in association with the Asian Art House. The highlight was a live art
performance to music, by artist Manoj Das.
On Saturday, like-minded
guests who appreciate fine art and exquisite food participated in a unique
showcase titled ‘Shades of Asia’ which juxtaposed a curated collection of
Indian and Vietnamese art featuring 30 artworks from well-known artists,
alongside the newly-introduced menu and live music. The creations on display
included work by contemporary Indian artists such as MF Husain, Amit Bhar,
Laxman Aaley, Sangeeta Babani, Thota Laxmanan, Bhaskar Rao Botcha, Rangoli
Garg, Sujata Sah Sejekan and Gourishankar Soni.
In the past, Asian Art House
has organised art events in Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai, promoting upcoming
Indian artists and has showcased South East Asian Art in India with art shows
held at various hotels and art galleries in Kolkata, Hyderbad and Bengaluru.
Asian Art House has also collaborated with Art Bengaluru, South India’s premier
art event, to showcase a host of well-known and established contemporary Indian
artists who have done solo and group shows in India and overseas, fine art from
Vietnam as well as represented galleries from London and Berlin to give art
lovers in Bengaluru an enhanced art experience.
Prego offers guests unique
artistic flavours from the kitchens of Italy and brings to life a culinary art
house where guests can enjoy a lively show kitchen while feasting on the most
loved Italian classics, including fresh pastas, homemade bread, and delicious
hand-tossed pizzas. Inspired by the flavours of Genoa – Italy’s principal
seaport, the cuisine is based on traditional Mediterranean cooking and is rich
in ingredients and flavours. Executive Chef Rahul Dhavale and Chef Antonello
Cancedda, chef de cuisine of Prego, redefine gastronomic experiences with their
culinary proficiency and artistic skill.
Commenting on the launch of
the new menu, Chef Antonella said, “As an Italian and a local of Italy’s
ancient port city – Genoa, Genoese cuisine is ingrained in me since I was a
child. The cuisine is authentic, flavourful and extraordinarily enticing. I was always fond of my mother’s cooking
style and having one meal of the day together with the family was a tradition…”
The combination of painting,
artful cuisine and soulful music added up to an enriching afternoon of
masterful art. The exhibition of paintings will continue till the end of the
week at the Westin Mumbai Garden City in Goregaon, a suburb of Mumbai.
